about Louët Feisser®

HISTORY

Louët Feisser® is a family-owned brand that was founded in 1956. Its dedication to high quality clothing that stand the test of time, produced for the 'connoisseurs' that know exactly what they want - is as true as ever. In the current day and age, with dwindling natural resources due to excessive overconsumption, Louët Feisser® sees a direct need to make an impact in its domain.

With hemp as our foundation, for every fit we produce, we create a product that adds to the ecology of our planet rather than substracts from it.

FAQ

At Louët Feisser®, we don’t follow trends — we follow principles. When we searched for a fabric that could stand up to our standards of craftsmanship, sustainability, and style, hemp wasn’t just an option. It was the answer.

Hemp carries history in its fibers — used for thousands of years, yet more relevant now than ever. It’s strong, breathable, and low-impact on the planet. It softens with time, not trends. And just like the pieces we design, it tells a story of enduring value.

This is why we build with hemp. Not because it’s the easy route — but because it’s the right one. Below, we answer some of the most common questions about why hemp matters — so you can wear it with understanding.

Does hemp fabric wrinkle?

Hemp can wrinkle, especially when new, but it holds its shape better over time. Blends with other fibers like organic cotton reduce wrinkling while maintaining breathability.

Is hemp a luxury fabric?

Yes, hemp can be considered a luxury fabric when processed well. It combines sustainability, durability, and unique texture, aligning with premium, conscious fashion values.

Is hemp a cheap fabric?

Hemp isn’t typically “cheap” due to sustainable farming and eco-processing. However, its durability makes it cost-effective long-term, especially compared to fast fashion alternatives.

Is hemp clothing breathable?

Absolutely. Hemp is one of the most breathable natural fibers. It allows air circulation, absorbs moisture, and helps regulate body temperature naturally.

Is hemp waterproof?

Hemp is not naturally waterproof, but it dries quickly and can be treated for water resistance. Its moisture-wicking properties keep you dry and comfortable.

Is hemp better than cotton?

In many ways, yes. Hemp is stronger, more durable, uses less water to grow, and requires no pesticides. It also regulates temperature better and is more sustainable long-term. While cotton is softer initially, hemp softens with every wash—offering comfort without compromising on performance or the planet.

Is hemp a good material for clothing?

Yes—hemp is one of the best natural fibers for clothing. It's breathable, strong, antibacterial, and softens beautifully over time. It regulates temperature and absorbs moisture, making it ideal for both warm and cool weather.

Why is hemp clothing so expensive?

Hemp is more costly to process and manufacture, especially when done sustainably. It’s often grown organically, mechanically processed, and requires skilled craftsmanship. But the payoff is longevity, minimal environmental impact, and elevated quality.

Does hemp clothing pill?

Hemp clothing resists pilling better than cotton and many synthetics. Its long, strong fibers maintain integrity over time, making it ideal for durable, long-lasting garments.

Is hemp as cool as linen?

Yes, hemp is as cool as linen. Both fabrics are breathable and moisture-wicking, making them excellent for warm climates. Hemp also softens with each wash without losing strength.

Is hemp biodegradable?

Yes, hemp is fully biodegradable. When untreated with synthetics or harsh dyes, hemp decomposes naturally, making it an eco-conscious choice for sustainable fashion.

Is hemp warmer than wool?

Hemp is not warmer than wool. Wool traps heat more effectively due to its crimped fibers. However, hemp insulates well when layered and is suitable for year-round wear.

Is cotton or hemp warmer?

Cotton and hemp have similar warmth, but hemp offers better thermoregulation. It keeps you warm in cool weather and cool in heat, offering greater year-round comfort.

Is hemp the same as bamboo?

No, hemp and bamboo are different plants and fabrics. While both are sustainable, hemp is mechanically processed, requiring fewer chemicals than bamboo, making it more eco-friendly.

Is hemp fabric cooling?

Yes, hemp fabric is naturally cooling. It’s breathable, moisture-wicking, and UV-resistant, making it ideal for summer and warm weather wear.
